Job summary

The Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller’s Office in Florida is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to handle regular payroll processing, audits, and data maintenance with a focus on regulatory compliance. The role stresses accuracy, independence, and cross-training to support the payroll team.

The position offers a Hybrid work model after a 6-month onsite training period and a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, health care, retirement options, and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years’ recent, relevant and progressively responsible payroll accounting experience required.
  • Two (2) years of direct work experience and one (1) year of supplemental work experience in payroll.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of regulatory standards governing payroll reporting in an automated environment.

  • Performs regular processing of payroll activities; audits, inputs and maintains payroll and new hire data; runs interfaces; ensures processing within required time frame.
  • Prepares, processes, and audits adjustments, deductions, garnishments, reversals, manual checks and retroactive changes in accordance with policy and laws.
  • Reconciles, balances and closes payroll runs; assists management with training, testing, and validating automated payroll system.

  • Performs regular processing of payroll activities; audits, inputs and maintains payroll and new hire data; runs interfaces; ensures processing is completed within required time frame.
  • Prepares, processes, and audits adjustments, benefits deductions, garnishment deductions, corrections, reversals, stop payments, cancellations, manual checks, retroactive changes, final paychecks, etc. in accordance with policy and local, state and federal laws.
  • Utilizes various automated business management systems in processing payroll actions, e.g., setting up deductions, setting up new hires, processing separations, setting up direct deposit, tax withholding.
  • Processes payroll system calculations for pre auditing of payroll data; audits and reviews payroll registers for accuracy, completeness and conformance with all rules and regulations.
  • Reconciles, balances and closes payroll runs; reconciles and balances payroll.
  • Assists management with training, testing, and validating automated payroll system; Researches and resolves payroll accounting discrepancies and issues; takes corrective action as needed.

Associate’s degree with course work in the areas of either Accounting or Business required.

Additional experience is accepted as a minimum requirement in lieu of a post-secondary degree on the following basis: additional four (4) years in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, and additional two (2) years in lieu of an associate degree.

Two (2) years of direct work experience and one (1) year of supplemental work experience is required; must demonstrate the comprehensive knowledge of regulatory standards and requirements government payroll reporting such as: processing, withholdings, and distribution in an integrated automated business systems environment. Must demonstrate initiative and independent judgment in researching and reporting on accounting discrepancies and resolving client/customer issues with minimal supervisory review.
