Job summary

Databricks is seeking a Senior Manager, Payroll to own end-to-end payroll delivery for the United States and Canada. This hands-on leadership role will run operations, lead the team, own compliance, and serve as the SME the business relies on during critical pay cycles.

You will report to the Senior Director, Head of Global Payroll, and participate in the Payroll Leadership Team, shaping strategy and cross-regional initiatives beyond your remit.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands‑on US and Canada payroll experience, with leadership experience
  • Deep knowledge of US multi-state payroll tax (nexus, SUI/SDI, withholding)
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll compliance (CPP/QPP, EI/QPIP, provincial tax)
  • Experience managing RSU/equity payroll and W-2/T4 reconciliation
  • Experience leading teams of four or more; delegation and accountability
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or equivalent certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Own the full payroll cycle for US and Canada, including semi-monthly and off-cycle runs
  • Manage payroll calendar, deadlines, and data integrity from hire to final pay
  • Serve as primary escalation point for discrepancies and queries
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce manual effort while maintaining controls
  • Lead team of four to five payroll professionals and build capability
  • Design and maintain SOX-compliant payroll controls and dashboards
  • Coordinate with HRIS/IT on system changes impacting payroll
  • Oversee year-end processes (W-2, W-2c, T4, RL-1) and tax registrations
  • Ensure audits are managed with timely documentation and closure
