Job summary

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office is seeking experienced law enforcement professionals for the Deputy Sheriff (Patrol) role. This sworn position involves patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls, serving warrants, making arrests, and upholding the safety of the Hanover County community.

Starting annual salary will be determined based on career ladder level and years of experience, with opportunities for advancement within the six-level Deputy Sheriff structure.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of modern police methods and procedures.
• Knowledge of Federal, State and County laws and ordinances.
• Ability to operate and handle law enforcement equipment.
• Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and to rapidly analyze situations.

Responsibilities

• Patrols an assigned area and detects violations of traffic and criminal law and suspicious activity.
• Responds to radio calls for service.
• Serves warrants and makes arrests.
• Handles domestic disturbances and a variety of citizen complaints.
• Directs traffic as necessary.
• Investigates automobile accidents and assists disabled motorists.
• Conducts criminal investigations.
• Testifies in court.
• Performs related work as assigned.
