Job summary

NAMSA is seeking a pathology associate to independently perform necropsy procedures and related GLP duties in a on-site Minnesota facility. The role includes leading training, keeping accurate records, and coordinating tissue shipments within the study workflow.

The position requires a biology-related degree and at least five years in GLP/nonclinical settings. The work environment involves exposure to animals and lab hazards, with a strong emphasis on safety and SOP adherence.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor degree or equivalent in Biological Sciences or related discipline
  • 5 years’ experience in a GLP, nonclinical environment required

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs necropsy procedures, including complete necropsies and perfusion procedures.
  • Performs routine gross examination as required by GLP standards, and performs accurate and timely record keeping.
  • Assumes lead role responsibility to assist manager with maintaining daily schedule and workflow activities.
  • Coordinates and performs the shipping of all pathology related specimens to the appropriate designated facility.
  • Performs tissue trimming according to established guidelines and study protocols.
  • Performs silicone anatomical castings of organs and vessels.
  • Performs photography and high-resolution x-ray imaging and film developing.
  • Maintains proficiency in all appropriate designated departmental SOPs with knowledge of lab processes.
  • Reviews protocols that include pathology services, and assists in modifying pathology-related SOPs.
  • Maintains a clean, GLP-compliant lab and ensures all logbooks are reviewed and correct.
  • Acts as a direct contact for clients on special/complicated requests and projects.
  • Performs calibration or validation activities to specialized equipment.
  • Performs as a lead trainer for newer pathology technicians, providing training of Pathology Technician I and II job duties to other technicians in need of training.
  • Identifies process improvements and leads the implementation of changes.
  • Assists manager with various administrative tasks such as reviewing and commenting on draft protocols, assisting in the development of gross pathology reports, coordinating tissue procurement activities, and preparing necropsy prep weekly schedule.

Job Description

  • Performs tissue trimming according to established guidelines and study protocols.
  • Performs silicone anatomical castings of organs and vessels.
  • Performs photography and high-resolution x-ray imaging and film developing.
  • Maintains proficiency in all appropriate designated departmental SOPs with knowledge of lab processes.

Qualifications & Technical Competencies
  • Associate or Bachelor degree or equivalent in Biological Sciences or related discipline
  • 5 years’ experience in a GLP, nonclinical environment required.
Working Conditions
  • The Associate is regularly exposed to, and may come in contact with, a variety of livestock, domestic and laboratory animals. The Associate may be exposed to sharps, gasses such as CO2 and isoflurane, fluoroscopy, zoonotic diseases, wet conditions (non-weather), and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. Hearing protection is required in designated areas and when performing specific tasks.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, reach with hands and arms, and is occasionally required to use hands and fingers to perform meticulous tasks. The Associate is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The Associate may be required to stand for extended periods of time.

Please Note: Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. The compensation grade range for this position is: $26.92 - $52.40 - Hourly
