Job summary

Lutron Electronics seeks a Sr. Patent Agent to join its IP team at its global headquarters in Coopersburg, PA. You will elicit invention disclosures, draft and prosecute patent applications worldwide, and contribute to Lutron’s global IP strategy.

Collaborate with engineers and business leaders to align IP with R&D and commercialization plans. Responsibilities include managing patent counsel, analyzing third-party IP rights, and supporting education on IP issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
• GPA 3.0+ across all related degrees earned.
• Registration to the USPTO Patent Bar is required.
• 5+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting US and foreign patent applications.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% of time.
• Experience drafting and prosecuting in electrical and software fields.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers to elicit invention disclosures.
• Prepare and prosecute US and foreign patent applications with engineers and business leaders.
• Manage US and foreign patent counsel in drafting and prosecuting patent filings.
• Assist with strategic maintenance and growth of patent portfolios.
• Build relationships with technical, business, and legal leaders to align IP with R&D and business plans.
• Provide proactive IP advice tailored to Lutron’s units.
• Analyze potential risks to products regarding third-party patent rights.
• Prepare, obtain, and analyze patent searches; assess patentability, non-infringement, and validity.
• Assist with third-party licensing requests and patent allegations.
• Provide competitive IP analysis and support IP education and compliance.
