Metro-Phoenix Chinese Alliance Church - Tempe, AZ seeks a Senior Pastor to provide spiritual leadership during a season of transition and growth, guiding a Cantonese-speaking congregation toward a broader English ministry. The ideal candidate will have a Master of Divinity or equivalent theology and be prepared for Alliance licensing, with a heart for second-generation Chinese families

Senior Pastor

We are seeking a Senior Pastor who will provide spiritual leadership and help guide our congregation through an important season of transition and growth.

About Our Church

Our church officially launched in November 1982 and has served the Cantonese-speaking immigrant community from Hong Kong for more than 40 years.

Our congregation averages approximately 50 people in Sunday worship, with 35 current members. About 90% of our congregation came from Hong Kong and speaks Cantonese, while approximately half can understand and converse in Mandarin and English.

We are a close-knit congregation with longstanding relationships. Many members have known one another for more than 30 years.

Our current ministries include family small groups, a sister group, a mothers' group, an elderly fellowship, a gentlemen's coffee gathering, prayer meetings and Bible studies, as well as developing evangelistic Bible studies and discipleship opportunities.

We maintain close relationships with other churches and pastors in the area and participate in evangelistic events, Vacation Bible School, outreach activities, and community service alongside other churches.

Looking ahead, we desire to develop an English-speaking congregation, with a particular focus on reaching second-generation Chinese families and beginning ministry with pre-teens. We are investing in youth ministry training and seeking a pastor with the passion and gifts to help lead the church into this next stage. We are also working toward establishing an Elder Board to provide long‑term leadership and planning.

Position Description

The Senior Pastor will be expected to:

• Provide leadership and vision for the church's future.
• Communicate the Word of God through preaching, teaching, instruction, exhortation, and correction.
• Recruit, develop, and mentor lay leaders.
• Model and mobilize one-on-one discipleship.
• Mobilize the congregation toward evangelistic outreach and greater engagement with the surrounding community.
• Provide pastoral care, including visitation and counseling.
• Minister to families and help develop ministry to children, pre-teens, youth, and the next generation.
• Help develop an English-speaking ministry, with particular attention to second-generation Chinese families.
• Oversee and participate in worship ministry.
• Oversee ministry programs and projects.
• Work with church leadership as the church establishes its Elder Board and clarifies ministry responsibilities.
• Facilitate healthy collaboration among church leaders and ministries.
• Participate in community events and relationships with other churches and local ministry organizations.
• Encourage greater awareness, commitment, and participation in missions, including prayer, giving, sending, and going.
• Manage conflict biblically and promote unity within the congregation.

The pastor will join a congregation that values strong relationships while seeking to become more outward-focused and engaged with the surrounding community.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

• Demonstrate a strong Christian faith, godly character, spiritual discipline, and evidence of a Spirit-filled life.
• Be qualified for pastoral ministry within The Christian and Missionary Alliance and meet its requirements for pastoral service.
• Possess strong biblical preaching and teaching abilities.
• Have demonstrated pastoral ministry experience.
• Have the ability and desire to develop and mentor lay leaders.
• Have a passion for evangelism, discipleship, missions, and community engagement.
• Have a heart for children, pre-teens, youth, and second-generation Chinese families.
• Be able to provide leadership and vision while working collaboratively with church leadership.
• Be able to minister effectively within a Cantonese-speaking congregation while helping the church move toward expanded English-language ministry.
• Be comfortable working with a congregation composed primarily of Cantonese-speaking immigrants from Hong Kong and their families.
• Demonstrate the ability to build relationships across generations and cultures.
• Be committed to biblical conflict resolution and maintaining unity within the church.

A Master of Divinity or equivalent theological education is among the educational levels being considered for the position.

Compensation

The church intends to provide a compensation package appropriate to the pastor's training, experience, and ministry responsibilities.

The terms of call are expected to address:
