First Baptist Church Rocky Mount is a historic, Christ-centered congregation located in the heart of Eastern North Carolina. Our church is committed to biblical preaching, vibrant worship, discipleship for all ages, and compassionate outreach to our community. We are prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor who will shepherd our congregation, lead with spiritual maturity, and guide us into a fruitful season of gospel-centered ministry.

Position Summary

The Senior Pastor serves as the primary spiritual leader of First Baptist Church Rocky Mount. This role includes preaching and teaching the Word of God, providing pastoral care, overseeing staff and ministry leaders, and guiding the church in mission, discipleship, and community engagement. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong biblical conviction, relational warmth, organizational leadership, and a heart for reaching Rocky Mount and beyond with the gospel.

Key Responsibilities

• Preaching & Teaching — Deliver expository, Christ-centered sermons; lead midweek teaching.
• Pastoral Care — Provide counseling, visitation, crisis care, and prayer support for members.
• Leadership & Administration — Supervise church staff; collaborate with deacons, committees, ministry teams and foster unity within the church body.
• Vision & Strategy — Lead the church in developing and implementing a clear mission-focused vision.
• Worship Oversight — Partner with worship leaders to plan meaningful, Scripture-rooted services.
• Community Engagement — Represent the church in local ministries, partnerships, and outreach efforts.
• Denominational Cooperation — Support and participate in associational, state and international Baptist missions and ministries.

Qualifications

• A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a life consistent with biblical teaching which meets the standards for Pastors as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
• A calling to pastoral ministry and alignment with belief in the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
• A Master of Divinity or higher preferred from an accredited seminary, and ordination is required.
• Prefer 5-7 years experience in a Senior Pastor role.
• Strong and theologically sound preaching, teaching, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership ability with staff, volunteers, and diverse ministry teams.
• Compassionate shepherding heart and relational maturity.
• Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership and congregation.
