Merriman Road Baptist Church in Garden City, MI is seeking a biblically qualified Senior Pastor to lead a multi-staff ministry and shepherd a diverse, 400-attendance congregation. The ideal candidate will faithfully preach and teach God’s Word, provide spiritual and organizational leadership, and build strong discipleship and outreach.

Location: southeastern Michigan
Position: Full-Time Senior Pastor

About Our Church

We are a culturally diverse, multigenerational Southern Baptist congregation. We are now prayerfully seeking our next Senior Pastor following the retirement of only our third Senior Pastor in 74 years of ministry. We are deeply committed to reaching people with the Gospel locally, nationally, and internationally. We are a mission minded church; approximately 40% of our total offerings support missions, cooperative ministries, and related outreach efforts. We believe that God has honored and blessed this commitment by enabling us to be debt-free.

Our church has partnered with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (NAMB) through SEND Network serving as a SEND Detroit hub for the past 13 years assisting in the launch of more than 70 church plants, approximately 85% of which remain active today.

Our congregation averages approximately 400 people on a typical Sunday morning across all age groups. Each Sunday morning, we offer two identical blended worship services with life groups meeting concurrently. Once per month, we have a joint family service where people worship together. We have thriving preschool and children’s ministries as well as ministries serving students, college students, adults, and families.

The Senior Pastor will be supported by four staff pastors, including ministry leadership in executive pastoral ministry, students, discipleship, and collegiate ministry.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a biblically qualified, experienced Senior Pastor who loves Christ, His Word, His Church, and the mission of making disciples. He will be a servant leader who can faithfully preach and teach God’s Word while providing spiritual and organizational leadership.

Pastoral Experience

The preferred candidate will have:

• Undergraduate degree and Master of Divinity preferred
• Previous experience serving as the Senior Pastor of a multi-staff church
• 5–10 years of Senior Pastor experience
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop pastoral and ministry staff
• Experience shepherding a multigenerational congregation
• A heart for evangelism, discipleship, missions, and church planting

Biblical Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate the biblical character and qualifications of an elder/pastor as described in Titus 1:5–9, 1 Timothy 3:1–7, 1 Peter 5:1–4. We seek a pastor whose personal life, family life, relationships, and ministry reflect spiritual maturity, integrity, humility, and a shepherd’s heart.

Doctrinal Alignment

We seek a pastor of like faith who is in agreement with the church’s Constitution and Statement of Faith. Our Statement of Faith (available on our website) reflects our doctrinal beliefs and is derived from the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
