Job summary

PAE Government Services Inc. is seeking a paralegal to support legal teams in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Job description

Responsibilities
  • Review files and documents for a variety of criminal or civil cases and identify pertinent material.
  • Establish and maintain a system for compiling, indexing, and organizing documents and their sources.
  • Assist in trial preparation by compiling, organizing, and indexing trial documents.
  • Mark and identify trial documents and draft a list of documents offered at trial.
  • Perform legal tasks such as copying, mailing, closing files, maintaining pleadings, and managing a calendar system for assigned attorneys to track due dates for pleadings, hearings, court appearances, and other deadlines.
  • Maintain electronic case files that are organized, current, accessible, and retrievable while ensuring the integrity of data entered into the case management system.
  • Search and extract legal references from libraries and electronic data banks.
  • Review and summarize case precedent and decisions in a prescribed format.
  • Assist AUSAs by preparing, scheduling, reviewing, and organizing discovery, notifying, and managing witnesses.
  • Aid in organizing evidence for production as discovery and for trial use.
Qualifications
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization (US citizenship required).
  • Require a paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study; alternatively, one year of legal training or two years of college education may substitute.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or related project experience is mandatory; trial experience is very helpful.
  • Automated litigation support experience is valued.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation and the ability to cite legal motions and memoranda.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and hands‑on familiarity with computer applications: word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver high‑quality work under extreme pressure.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly rate of $24.28 with overtime eligibility.
