SEEKING ISO 11607 EXPERIENCE

This position will be an active member of the packaging team responsible for both sterile and non-sterile packaging configurations for medical devices. This role will be responsible for performing professional engineering work in the conception, specification, design, manufacture and testing of medical device packaging. This person will work with design teams and suppliers by managing the packaging process. They will support the development of new packaging solutions through the full life cycle, including conceptual design, process development, and continuous improvement. This person will assist the development of Standard Operating Procedures which govern the design and development of product packaging.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support in the development of new and sustainment of existing packaging configurations inclusive of performance and cost considerations
  • Develop packaging designs from concept to final release including CAD documentation in support of both the sterile and non-sterile delivery of medical devices to the operating room
  • Create and maintain component specifications for all primary, secondary and tertiary packaging and develop, conduct, and analyze the testing of this packaging
  • Interface with internal product development engineering teams to define package design solutions; manage multiple projects to meet established timelines
  • Develop an understanding of package manufacturing processes
  • Identify viable primary packaging options and alternatives, defining technical parameters
  • Development of secondary shipment packaging
  • Support the development of risk management documents relative to packaging, in coordination with the project team
  • Contribute to the design and validation of cases and trays intended for the transportation and terminal sterilization of 'non-sterile' medical devices in the hospital
  • Work with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the optimal design is completed on time, by fully understanding the suppliers' processes and their integration with operations
  • Support cost reduction activities and indications or market expansion opportunities
  • Develop and maintain a professional knowledge of emerging trends in packaging technology and materials
  • Begin to develop credibility as a thought leader in both Sterile and Non-Sterile Packaging of medical devices
  • Develop the skill set and background to become credentialed in packaging through continuous learning in the profession
Education & special trainings
  • Bachelors of Science in Packaging Engineering, Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Microbiology
Qualifications & experience
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience in packaging design and development. Medical Device packaging design/development preferred
  • Some experience drawing packaging designs in CAD (Solidworks or Creo preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of QSR
  • Personally driven and detail oriented
  • Good technical communication skills
  • Familiarity with design controls within a regulated industry
