Job summary

Berkley Risk, part of W. R. Berkley Corporation, seeks an experienced Claims Adjuster to handle assigned claims with emphasis on investigation, evaluation, and settlement.

The role requires litigation exposure, coordination with independent adjusters and defense attorneys, and adherence to reporting guidelines. Travel occasionally; base salary and robust benefits package offered. Qualified candidates bring 5+ years of claims handling experience, relevant licenses, and strong negotiation skills;

Qualifications

• 5+ years of claims handling experience, with some litigation management preferred.
• AIC, CPCU, or other industry coursework preferred.
• Complies with state adjuster licensing where applicable.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Good human relations, negotiation and communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Adjust claims as assigned and perform investigation, evaluation and resolution.
• Understand coverage, issue RORs and DISCLAIMERS.
• Conduct investigations by phone or via independent adjusters to determine coverage, liability and damages.
• Manage some litigated files and oversee defense counsel.
• Evaluate, negotiate, and settle claims within authority or seek authority for those claims in excess of authority.
• Identify subrogation/contribution/deductible recovery opportunities and pursue recovery when appropriate.
• Assign and direct independent adjusters and defense attorneys; comply with litigation management guidelines.
• Keep claim files organized; diaries current and reserves adequately.
• Comply with reinsurance and client reporting guidelines.
• Issue loss and expense payments properly and on a timely basis.
• May perform other functions as assigned.
