Job summary

University of California, Irvine Health seeks an Orthopaedic Technician to perform clinical assessment and care management for orthopaedic outpatients. You will remove sutures, apply and remove casts, collect data, and offer patient instructions while ensuring age-appropriate care.

Successful candidates have 2+ years in orthopaedic tech, a Medical Assistant diploma or certificate, OTC/ROT certification, and strong English communication plus BLs on hire.

Qualifications

• Understanding of medical terminology and patient data collection.
• Minimum 2 years experience as Orthopaedic Technician required.
• Medical Assistant Diploma or Certificate of Competency/Recognition.
• Current OTC or ROT certification and BLS upon hire.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.

Your Role on the Team

Position Summary

Incumbent performs clinical assessment and care management for orthopedic outpatients and presents relevant patient data to the physician. Removes sutures. Applies and removes casts and splints. Collects and records patient data. Provides patient information and instructions. Monitors patient flow during clinic hours. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, i.e. neonate, pediatric, adult or geriatric and provide the care needed. Demonstrates positive attitude and excellent customer service to all.

Required Qualifications

• Understanding of medical terminology
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Minimum 2 years experience working as an Orthopaedic Technician
• Medical Assistant Diploma or Certificate of Competency / Recognition in Medical Assisting Clinical / Back Office
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of the duties assigned to the position
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Current Orthopaedic Technologist Certified (OTC) from National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists, or Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT) certification from the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals
• BLS certification upon hire
• Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
