Job summary

Quartus Engineering seeks an Opto‑Mechanical Senior Engineer to design robust mechanicals for high‑performance optical systems in challenging environments. You will join a cross‑disciplinary team, guiding projects from concept to build and alignment.

The ideal candidate has 6–15 years in opto‑mechanical design, precision mechanics, and thermal management, with CAD/CAE and GD&T expertise. US citizen or permanent resident required; hybrid San Diego location.

Qualifications

• BS and/or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• 6–15 years of opto‑mechanical design for high performance optical systems in challenging environments
• Optical system design and opto‑mechanical packaging
• Design of precision mechanisms and draftings using CAD/CAE tools
• Familiarity with optical raytracing software is a plus
• Must be a US Person (U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident)

Responsibilities

• Design and develop opto-mechanical assemblies and sub-systems for diverse applications
• Design and build prototypes, create detailed drawings and instructions for production
• Perform tolerance analysis and FMEA’s for subsystems
• Drive mechanical design elements by building a tolerance budget
• Create and maintain technical documentation (CAD models, drawings, simulations, BOMs)
• Collaborate with program manager and customer on requirements
• Work independently and with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers
• Manage multiple tasks and projects
• Mentor and assist junior engineers
• Support project plans, proposals, and schedules
• Prepare customer design review slides
