IPG Photonics is a leading developer and producer of fiber lasers and amplifiers, headquartered in Marlborough, MA. The Senior Optical Coating Engineer will drive new coating development and manage critical processes at our state-of-the-art facility, collaborating with R&D and production to advance thin-film coatings across UV to near-IR ranges.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with vacuum coating systems, strong thin-film theory, and proven ability to manage multiple technical tasks

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, preferably with thin films/optics focus.
• Hands-on experience with vacuum thin-film deposition and coating equipment.
• Strong knowledge of thin-film theory, metrology, and coating design concepts.
• Experience with deep UV and vacuum UV coatings and coating processes.
• Proven ability to manage multiple technical assignments and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to and support the optical coating development program.
• Address critical technical issues impacting program success and implement solutions.
• Provide input into technology choices and support efficient coating operations.
• Evaluate progress to ensure new products meet goals and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop and implement coating designs, workflows, and production protocols.
• Monitor process metrics and ensure traceability in databases.
• Communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders, including R&D activities.
• Demonstrate accountability for assigned activities and team success.
