Job summary

Abbott in Saint Paul, MN, is seeking a Production Operator for the EP manufacturing cell. The role supports the production supervisor, ensures continuous flow, and assists in achieving high quality output in a clean-room environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 4 years of related assembly experience.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Experience in an air-conditioned clean-room manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate production activity to meet build schedules.
  • Communicate work instructions to designated areas.
  • May perform direct manufacturing operations as needed.
  • Perform regular process and quality audits of personnel, tooling and equipment.
  • Provide training and feedback to area operators and retrain as necessary.
  • Assist in data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Resolve issues affecting cell productivity and escalate as needed.

The Opportunity

This position works out of our Saint Paul Tech Center location in the EP division.

Main Purpose of Role

Under general supervision, supports assigned area Production Supervisor in ensuring the continuous flow ofhigh-qualityproduction through assigned work-cellsin accordance withmanufacturing obligations. Acts as the lead person in self-directed cells or teams.Assistsin ensuring thathigh levelsof productivity and product quality are consistentlymaintained, andhelps coordinate efforts towards their continuous improvement.

  • Responsible for coordinating production activity in assigned work areas, ensuring that product is continuously processedin accordance withbuild schedules.
  • Coordinates communication of work instructions to personnel in designated areasin accordance withsupervisoryobjectives.
  • May perform direct manufacturing operations in support of build schedules, as directed or as necessary.
  • Performs regular process and quality performance audits of personnel,toolingand equipment in assigned areas.
  • Advises supervisor or otherappropriate contactin the event ofissues affecting the productivity of the cell.
  • Accumulates information for assigned areasregardingwork in process inventory status and daily output quantities.
  • Assistsin providing direct training to area operators asrequired. Provides feedback on defectsencountered, andprovides re-trainingsupportas necessary.
  • Accumulates and organizes data to support area continuous improvement plans, as directed.
  • Provides assistancein expeditingpriorityproduct and tasks in assigned areas.
  • Performs inspection anddeterminesdisposition ofrejectsper required documentation, as directed.
  • Resolves and/orfacilitatesresolution ofproblemsincluding identifying causes to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Support all Company initiatives asidentifiedby management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Complies withU.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.
  • Works with a variety of production equipment, small hand tools, test equipment, and precision measuring instruments. Alsousesstandard office equipment such astelephone, fax/copier, and a personal computer with standard office software.
  • Works in a production or air-conditioned clean-room manufacturingenvironment;requires gowning attire tomaintaina particle free environment. Low to moderate noiselevel. Minor exposure to chemicals. May work at a desk or workstation.
  • Requires a significant amount of sitting,stoopingand walking; manual dexterity; ability to reach, hold, grasp, and move items. Subject to standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform occasional tasks requiring the physical lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately thirty pounds. Must be able to perform functionsutilizingautomated/manual equipment requiring correctable vision including color discrimination.

Shift

Monday – Friday, 7am - 3:30pm with potential overtime

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Minimum 4yearsrelated experience in the assembly of digital and analog circuitry/devices, including the demonstrated ability to provide work/lead direction to a team.
  • Must be able todemonstratecomprehensive product assembly techniques, related process knowledge, plus a mastery ofappropriate skillsets as confirmed bycognizantEngineering and/or Production/Quality Assurance supervisory personnel.
  • Prior experience working in an air-conditioned clean-room manufacturing environment isrequired.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, diagrams, notes, and layouts.
  • Demonstrated ability to usefrequentlyused hand tools;demonstratedeye-hand coordination and capable of working with small precision devices.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability toleverageand/or engage othersto accomplishprojects.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication, interpersonal,organizationaland basic math skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Multitasks,prioritizesand meets deadlines intimelymanner.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
