Job summary

Samsung Austin Semiconductor in Austin, TX is seeking a Shift Operations Technician to respond as first responders for field issues and to monitor and inspect electrical equipment (VFDs, UPSs, Diesel Generators, breakers, etc.). You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot controls, and assist with safety and quality improvements on site.

The role requires extensive hands-on electrical experience, NEC knowledge, and the ability to work in challenging environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years working with electrical systems, motor control circuits or automation equipment.
• Journeyman or Master Electrician license strongly preferred.
• NEC: Proficiency in NEC through maintenance or electrical projects.

Responsibilities

• Customer-facing electrical device operations and troubleshooting.
• Tour electrical room and identify abnormal conditions. Perform routine 6S inspection.
• Minor preventative and corrective/breakdown maintenance. Update activities in an equipment management system.
• Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects or the need for adjustment and repair, and to ensure compliance with NEC and job sites specifications.
• Work from ladders, scaffolds, roofs, inside cleanrooms, high-noise areas and hot environments to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
• Perform troubleshooting of relay controls, VFD, motor control centers, synchronous drives, and more.
• Escort vendors/contractors/non-electrical employees into electrical rooms.
• Respond to CCR requests for site alarms or site/fab issues.
• Complete QEW based training required to perform electrical work at site.
• Take part in Safety and Quality activities to improve onsite performance.
• Contribute to electrical safety improvements and NEC/NFPA70E knowledge.
• Take part in shift passdown covering actions, abnormalities and outstanding items.
• Provide technical assistance and coaching to junior team members as needed.
• Identify and escalate procedural, equipment, and personnel items needing supervisor attention.
• Use iEMS to track repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Establish and write policies, procedures and guidelines for plant operations and maintenance.

Position Summary

While the system is monitored in a Central Control Room (CCR) via a Facilities Monitoring & Control system (FMCS), the Shift Operations Technician will be dispatched to the field to physically investigate as first responders. The operations technician will also operate and check on a variety of electrical equipment such as variable frequency drives (VFDs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), Diesel Generators, Transfer Switches, Breakers, and more. Another basic function of the shift electrician is to perform basic preventative maintenance on distribution system equipment: taking thermal readings performing corrective maintenance, and more.

The current base salary range for this role is between $31.00 - $46.00/hour. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
