Job summary

MITRE’s Cyber Threat Intelligence department seeks an experienced offensive security engineer to advance adversary emulation, threat emulation, and red teaming across national security, public sector, and private sponsors.

You will contribute to ATT&CK evaluations and Caldera development, applying offensive security to improve defense. The position requires strong communication skills and four onsite days per week in San Diego.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience.
• Experience creating and using offensive security tools, malware implants, and other red team capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to independently deliver adversary emulation capabilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presenting technical analyses in written products and presentations.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• Position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.

Department Summary:

MITRE’s Cyber Threat Intelligence department is seeking isseekingcreative and passionate people who will advance the practice of adversary emulation, threat emulation, and red teamingdevelopment and operations. You will advance the state of the art through research and development, advance the state of the practice through support to critical projects including ATT&CK Evaluations and Caldera, and help our government sponsors use offensive security to improve cyber defense. Our department is responsible for delivering and advancing MITRE’s adversary emulation expertise across all of MITRE’s national security, public sector, and private sector sponsors.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Use your skills as an offensive security engineer and knowledge of adversary behaviors to build and emulate thecutting-edgecapabilities of real-world threats
• Use AI to advance the state of the art in cyber operations, purple teaming, and cyber threat intelligence
• Use your understanding of cyber intelligence to build products, perform R&D, and help sponsors solve their hardest CTI problems
• Propose and lead research to improve the state of the art of cyber operations
• Participate in, define, or lead offensive security engagements to showblue teams how to respond to real-world adversaries
• Use your knowledge of adversary behavior to advance ATT&CK, Caldera, and other MITRE efforts

Basic Qualifications:

• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Experience creating and using offensive security tools, malware implants, and other red team capabilities in one or more programming languages.
• Demonstrated ability to independently deliver adversary emulation capabilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experiencepresenting technical analysis in written products and presentations.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S Government issued Security Clearance. Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
• This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of ATT&CK, Caldera,ATT&CK Evaluations, and MITRE’s work in offensive security.
• Experience in cyber threat intelligence, including using threat intelligence to define red team capabilities.
