Job summary

Markel is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner to handle moderate to high complexity ocean marine and liability claims. You will manage coverage analysis, reserve decisions, and negotiations while coordinating with experts and outside counsel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of ocean marine or liability claims handling experience
• Bodily injury and/or commercial auto experience a plus
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license in all states
• Industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU, AMIM) preferred or training opportunities attended

Responsibilities

• Handles moderate to high complexity ocean marine first and third party property damage claims.
• Serves as primary contact for selected accounts.
• Reviews policies to confirm coverage for claims.
• Directs assignments to experts and outside counsel; manages vendors and litigation.
• Analyzes coverage positions; prepares coverage letters.
• Uses established claims handling techniques to achieve timely closure and cost control.
• Directs loss investigations and determines damages.
• Maintains service levels and communicates with stakeholders throughout the claim lifecycle.
• Evaluates exposure and reserves within authority; makes recommendations.
• Negotiates and settles claims; prepares summary reports.
• Presents to senior claims leaders and underwriters on high exposure cases.
• Participates in special projects and mentors colleagues.
• Travel to mediations, trials and conferences as required.
