Job summary

Theragenics Corp in Buford, GA seeks a Senior Nuclear Engineer / Health Physicist to lead radiation engineering for radiopharmaceutical manufacturing. Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics, Nuclear Physics, Medical Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in radiation engineering, shielding design, health physics, or nuclear engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MCNP or equivalent Monte Carlo radiation transport software, including model development and results interpretation.
  • Experience performing shielding analyses, source term development, and radiation dose calculations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent technical writing and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiation shielding analyses, dose assessments, and source term calculations.
  • Develop, validate, and interpret Monte Carlo radiation transport models using MCNP or equivalent software.
  • Support facility, hot cell, process equipment, and radiological system design activities.
  • Provide radiation engineering expertise during commissioning, qualification, and manufacturing readiness initiatives.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design specifications, and engineering standards.
  • Evaluate and optimize radiation detection systems, including HPGe spectroscopy applications.
  • Participate in design reviews, hazard analyses, and project risk assessments.
  • Support regulatory submissions and provide technical expertise during inspections and audits.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to radiation safety, facility performance, and operational effectiveness.

Role Summary

As a Senior Nuclear Engineer / Health Physicist, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the design, development, commissioning, and operation of innovative radiopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies. Working closely with cross-functional teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, Process Development, and Regulatory Affairs, you'll apply advanced radiation engineering expertise to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform radiation shielding analyses, dose assessments, and source term calculations.
  • Develop, validate, and interpret Monte Carlo radiation transport models using MCNP or equivalent software.
  • Support facility, hot cell, process equipment, and radiological system design activities.
  • Provide radiation engineering expertise during commissioning, qualification, and manufacturing readiness initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills
Required Qualifications

  • Experience performing shielding analyses, source term development, and radiation dose calculations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in radiopharmaceutical manufacturing or isotope production environments.
  • Knowledge of cyclotron facility operations and radiation systems.
  • Familiarity with cGMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting NRC or Agreement State licensed facilities.
  • Experience with radiation transport and shielding software such as MicroShield, SCALE, PHITS, FLUKA, Geant4, MAVRIC, or similar tools.
