Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Lynchburg, VA is seeking a Senior Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer on-site. The role focuses on Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) evaluations to establish safety bases for facilities, equipment, and processes involving uranium materials.

You will build and run SCALE/KENO models, assess normal operations and upsets against NRC limits, and evaluate accident sequences to designate Items Relied on For Safety. Must be a US citizen who can obtain DOE clearance.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Engineering is required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of NCS experience, preferably in an NRC licensed fuel cycle facility.
  • Working knowledge of SCALE/KENO is required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE clearance.

Your Day to Day as a Senior Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer:
  • The successful candidate will perform Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) evaluations to define the safety basis for operation of new or changing facilitates, equipment, or processes involving uranium bearing materials.
  • They will execute computer models to evaluate normal operations and process upsets relative to NRC License limits and requirements.
  • They will be responsible for evaluating accident sequences and designating Items Relied on For Safety to prevent a criticality accident from occurring.
  • The individual will also perform routine surveillance, inspections, and audits of areas where licensed material is used or stored to ensure compliance with NRC License requirements.
  • They will provide operational areas with specific NCS input and oversight as necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. or MS degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum five (5) years of NCS experience, preferably in an NRC licensed fuel cycle facility.
  • A working knowledge of SCALE/KENO.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nuclear Engineering degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with 10 CFR part 70 is beneficial.

Pay: $86,000 - $136,000

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $86,000 and $136,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
