Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and GraphQL. You will work with React-based Micro Frontend teams to ensure robust API contracts and secure data flow.

The role involves cloud-native AWS solutions, microservices, and a strong emphasis on CI/CD, testing, and production readiness in a hybrid model with 3 days onsite in Plano, TX or Boston, MA.

Qualifications

• 8-15 years of hands-on software engineering, backend focus with Node.js/JavaScript/TypeScript, NestJS and ExpressJS.
• Proven experience designing, building, and scaling GraphQL APIs (schemas, resolvers, queries, mutations).
• Strong experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, AppSync, CDK).
• Experience with microservices architecture, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Strong DB experience across SQL and NoSQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, RDS, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
• Experience with logging/monitoring/tracing (CloudWatch, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Exposure to Java/J2EE and Spring Boot fundamentals.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum teams with two-week sprints, planning, estimation, and release support.
• Strong communication, collaboration, ownership, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, NestJS, and ExpressJS.
• Build and manage GraphQL schemas, resolvers, queries, and mutations to support React-based Micro Frontend applications.
• Partner with front-end and Micro Frontend teams to define API contracts and ensure secure, reliable data flow.
• Develop cloud-native backend solutions using AWS services such as AWS Lambda, AWS AppSync, and AWS CDK.
• Integrate backend services with SQL and NoSQL databases, third-party APIs, and enterprise systems.
• Support authentication, authorization, data security, observability, CI/CD, automated testing, and production troubleshooting.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, estimations, and Agile/Scrum delivery.
