Job summary

Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, seeks a Senior Network Engineer T4 to support a Washington, DC government client. The role requires ability to obtain a Public Trust and hands-on enterprise networking across LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, and hybrid cloud.

Responsibilities include leading Tier 4 network engineering, ITIL-aligned changes, documentation, and 24x7 NOC coverage. 6–8 years in federal or comparable environments and CCNP-type certifications are required; CCIE and cloud

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6–8 years of hands-on enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Federal or private-sector enterprise environment of comparable scale, complexity, and security posture.
  • Proven ability to independently resolve complex, cross-domain network problems at the enterprise level.
  • Experience supporting hybrid on-premises and cloud network environments.
  • Experience executing enterprise network changes in accordance with formal change management processes.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 4 network engineering support across the enterprise (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, wireless, SD-WAN, security fabric).
  • Diagnose and resolve complex cross-domain network incidents without escalation.
  • Execute enterprise network changes per ITIL 4 change management practices.
  • Support Network Engineer Lead in planning and executing complex projects and integrations.
  • Contribute to 24x7 NOC operations via on-call availability and documented escalations.
  • Ensure work aligns with FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and Zero Trust Architecture (NIST SP 800-207, OMB M-22-09).
  • Apply least-privilege and separation-of-duties in all activities.
  • Support FedRAMP compliance for cloud-connected network components.
  • Adhere to CLIENT cybersecurity policies and procedures.
  • Support integration and operations of on-premises and cloud network infrastructure across AWS GovCloud, AWS commercial, Microsoft Azure Government, and Microsoft 365.
  • Assist in SD-WAN operations and optimization across distributed enterprise.
  • Collaborate with infra, platform, and cloud teams to ensure reliable connectivity and performance.
  • Maintain and update network documentation, diagrams, and configurations in ITSM and knowledge base.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for network tasks and escalation paths.
  • Support cross-training to ensure coverage continuity and team depth.
  • Contribute to after-action reviews and Sprint Retrospectives with improvements.

Key Responsibilities
Network Engineering & Operations
  • Provide Tier 4 network engineering support across CLIENT's enterprise environment, including LAN/WAN, routing, switching, wireless, SD-WAN, and network security fabric
  • Independently diagnose and resolve complex, cross-domain network incidents and problems without requiring escalation to government personnel
  • Execute enterprise network changes and integrations in accordance with ITIL 4 change management practices
  • Support the Network Engineer T4 (Lead) in planning and executing complex network projects and integrations
  • Contribute to 24x7 NOC operations through on-call availability and documented escalation procedures
Security & Compliance
  • Ensure all network work aligns with FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and Zero Trust Architecture principles (NIST SP 800-207, OMB M-22-09)
  • Apply least-privilege and separation-of-duties principles in all network engineering activities
  • Support FedRAMP compliance for cloud-connected network components

Cloud & Hybrid Network Support
  • Support integration and operations of on-premises and cloud network infrastructure across AWS commercial, AWS GovCloud, Microsoft Azure Government, and Microsoft 365 environments
  • Assist in SD-WAN operations and optimization across CLIENT's geographically distributed enterprise
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, platform, and cloud teams to ensure reliable connectivity and performance
Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Maintain and update network documentation, diagrams, and configurations in the ITSM platform and knowledge base
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for network tasks and escalation paths
  • Support cross-training efforts to ensure coverage continuity and team depth
  • Contribute to after-action reviews and Sprint Retrospectives with actionable improvement recommendations
Experience
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 6–8 years of hands-on enterprise network engineering experience

Required Certifications (Must Be Current And Unexpired Throughout Performance)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Enterprise or Security (required minimum)
  • Additional preferred certifications:
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) – Enterprise Infrastructure or Security
  • AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty
  • Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700)
  • CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent)
Performance Expectations

As a Tier 3/Tier 4 position, the selected individual:

  • Must meet or exceed the expertise and certification expectations outlined in Section B.2.10.2 of the contract — this standard applies to 100% of Tier 3/Tier 4 positions
  • Must operate autonomously, diagnosing, deciding, and resolving complex network issues within delegated authority without escalation to government personnel for subject-matter knowledge
  • Must maintain on-call availability outside core business hours to support escalation and coverage continuity
  • Any replacement personnel must meet or exceed the qualifications of the incumbent with no degradation to performance, coverage, or expertise
  • Must support 100% coverage continuity objectives, including serving as a qualified backup to the Network Engineer T4 (Lead) as needed
