Job summary

Human Capital Solutions seeks a network engineer with an active TS/SCI clearance to design and run a secure, high‑performance network across on‑prem and cloud environments in Virginia. This full‑time role encompasses architecture, implementation, automation, and mentoring of others within IT teams.

You will build and manage hybrid networks in AWS, Azure, or GCP, apply Zero Trust and NIST/ISO 27001 practices, lead troubleshooting, and document SOPs for staff development.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Poly required.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Experience levels span mid-level to principal depending on hiring band.

Responsibilities

• Design secure, scalable network architecture.

• Install, move, and decommission equipment and cabling.

Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph | Type: Full-time | Location:Virginia
Base Pay: $105,900 to $233,900, depending on level

The Opportunity
Join a mission-focused team as the engineer responsible for building and running a secure, high-performing network across on-prem and cloud environments. You will design it, fix it, automate it, and mentor others along the way.

What You'll Do

• Design network architecture that is secure, scalable, and fast
• Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers
• Install, move, and decommission equipment and cabling as needs change
• Build and manage hybrid and cloud networks in AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Apply Zero Trust principles and next-gen firewall practices aligned with NIST and ISO 27001
• Lead deep troubleshooting and tune performance using metrics
• Test and roll out patches, new features, and tool updates
• Automate with Python, Ansible, or Terraform
• Plan redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery
• Write SOPs, network documentation, and training for IT staff
• Coach junior engineers and work across teams on IT projects

What You Bring

• Hands-on with Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto, or Fortinet gear, including Cisco CLI and GUI
• Deep routing and switching knowledge (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS)
• Cloud networking experience (VPCs, VNets, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute)
• Strong communication with people at every level
• Solid grasp of firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and NAC
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or schematic capture tools
• Ability to read network diagrams, cable run lists, electrical schematics, and power requirements
• Bachelor's degree in CS, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience
• U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI with Full Scope Poly

Nice to Have

• Certs such as CCIE (a big plus), CCNP, JNCIE, PCNSE, AWS Advanced Networking, CISSP, or ITIL v4
• Monitoring tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, Wireshark, or NetFlow
• Government, defense, or regulated industry background
• SDN and SD-WAN experience
• ITIL and change management
• Master's degree

Levels: Hiring from mid-level (3+ years) through principal (16+ years), all with a bachelor's degree.
