Job description

Build the Future of Transportation Technology

Transit Technologies is a leading provider of software and technology solutions helping transportation organizations operate smarter, safer, and more efficiently. Our portfolio supports more than 4,000 customers and helps power more than 100 million rides annually across public transit, mobility, fleet and asset management, workforce management, safety, and other transportation operations.

Vestige, part of Transit Technologies, develops technology that connects software, data, distributed systems, and hardware-enabled environments. We are looking for a highly capable Senior .NET Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, building reliable systems, and taking ownership from initial design through production.

The Opportunity

This is not a role defined simply by years of coding experience or a checklist of technologies.

We are looking for a hands‑on senior engineer who combines strong .NET expertise with technical curiosity, practical problem-solving, sound judgment, and a willingness to work across application, data, infrastructure, and hardware‑integration boundaries.

You will design and build production software while also troubleshooting complex issues, improving existing systems, and helping the broader engineering team make better technical decisions.

The right person is comfortable diving into code, asking the right questions, finding root causes, and taking ownership of ambiguous problems. You should also be comfortable using modern development practices, including AI-assisted development and agentic workflows, without outsourcing engineering judgment or accountability.

What You'll Do
Build & Engineer
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain services and applications using C#, .NET, and .NET Core.
  • Work across the technology stack, including backend services, Angular-based user interfaces, APIs, data-processing pipelines, and distributed systems.
  • Build and support production-grade APIs and integrations.
  • Develop reliable event-driven and asynchronous solutions using technologies such as Kafka and Azure Service Bus.
  • Work with SQL Server, Azure Table Storage, and related data technologies.
  • Build, deploy, and improve containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Contribute to CI/CD and modern DevOps practices using Azure DevOps or comparable tooling.
Solve Complex Problems
  • Troubleshoot complex software, infrastructure, data, and hardware‑integration issues.
  • Investigate beyond symptoms to identify and validate root causes.
  • Take ownership of production issues and drive them through resolution.
  • Identify technical risks, gaps, and opportunities before they become larger problems.
  • Balance immediate delivery needs with maintainability, reliability, security, and long‑term system health.
Collaborate & Lead Technically
  • Participate actively in architecture and design discussions, code reviews, stand‑ups, incident follow‑up, and other engineering working sessions.
  • Clearly explain technical decisions, constraints, tradeoffs, and risks to technical and cross‑functional audiences.
  • Help teammates understand not only what technical decisions are being made, but why.
  • Provide and receive constructive technical feedback.
  • Mentor and support other engineers through collaboration, technical guidance, and strong engineering practices.
  • Take ownership of ambiguous problems and move initiatives forward without waiting for every task to be explicitly assigned.
Engineer Securely & Responsibly
  • Apply secure engineering practices across application design, APIs, data handling, deployment, and production support.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of responsible access to systems and data.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve engineering speed and quality while validating outputs and maintaining strong technical standards.
  • Remain accountable for the quality, security, reliability, and maintainability of the software you deliver.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Strong professional experience with C#, .NET, .NET Core, and modern software development.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience building and supporting production‑grade APIs and distributed services.
  • Experience with SQL Server, including data persistence, querying, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with event-driven or asynchronous systems using Kafka and/or Azure Service Bus.
  • Experience with Azure Table Storage or comparable NoSQL or cloud storage technologies.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized application delivery.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices, including Azure DevOps or comparable tooling.
  • Strong understanding of API security and general application security principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex production software, infrastructure, or hardware‑integration issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fifteen or more years of relevant industry experience, or an equivalent record of senior‑level technical impact and ownership.
  • Experience with mobile application development.
  • Experience supporting U.S.-based customers or engineering teams across multiple time zones.
  • Experience with operational technology, hardware integrations, telemetry, or distributed field environments.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, or coordinating engineering work across teams.
  • Experience incorporating AI‑assisted development tools and agentic workflows into modern software engineering practices.
The Ideal Candidate

You are a builder and a problem solver.

You enjoy writing software, but you are equally interested in understanding why something failed, how systems interact, and how to make the overall environment better.

You are comfortable moving between application code, APIs, data, integrations, infrastructure, and production troubleshooting. When a problem is unclear, you investigate rather than guess. When you make a technical recommendation, you can explain the reasoning, tradeoffs, and risks behind it.

You do not wait for every problem to be neatly defined. You take ownership, communicate what you are seeing, involve the right people, and move the issue toward resolution.

Most importantly, you remain hands‑on and passionate about engineering while bringing the maturity and judgment expected of a senior‑level engineer.

How Success Will Be Measured

Success in this role means more than delivering code. You will be successful when you:

  • Consistently deliver reliable, secure, maintainable production software.
  • Diagnose difficult and ambiguous technical problems and identify verified root causes.
  • Take ownership of issues and initiatives and drive them through completion.
  • Improve the reliability and maintainability of the systems you support.
  • Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and risks clearly.Collaborate effectively across engineering, product, infrastructure, and other teams.
  • Use modern development tools, including AI‑assisted development, to improve productivity without compromising engineering judgment or quality.
  • Make the surrounding engineering team stronger through technical leadership, accountability, and collaboration.
