The position requires extensive field work, coordination with project managers, shipyards, and regulatory agencies, and periodic travel throughout Southeast Alaska.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Active PE license; licensure by comity in Alaska and other jurisdictions as needed.
  • Minimum 10 years progressive engineering experience in naval architecture, marine engineering, structural engineering, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of vessel structures, marine systems, stability, and marine construction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development, review, and approval of vessel designs, modifications, repairs, and structural improvements.
  • Seal engineering drawings, plans, specifications, calculations, and documentation where required by law.
  • Perform naval architectural analyses: stability, weight, hydrostatics, trim, and machinery arrangements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, shipyards, crews, contractors, and regulators.
  • Inspect vessels and facilities; translate field conditions into design modifications.
