Geosyntec is seeking an exceptional Senior Natural Resources Scientist to support our growing Energy and Energy Transition practice in Boca Raton, Jacksonville, Pensacola, or Tampa, Florida. This position will provide opportunities to apply technical expertise to complex environmental permitting and planning projects throughout Florida and the southeastern United States, including energy, utility, transportation, and coastal resilience projects. The successful candidate will support and lead environmental permitting efforts involving wetlands and other waters, protected species, coastal resources, natural resource assessments, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, and coordination with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. The position offers opportunities for project management, business development, client engagement, and mentoring junior staff within Geosyntec's collaborative sell-manage-do culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducting wetland and surface water delineations in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) methodologies and Florida-specific requirements.
  • Supporting and leading environmental permitting efforts with agencies including the USACE, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Water Management Districts, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).
  • Preparing permit applications and supporting documentation for Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401 authorizations, Environmental Resource Permits (ERP), sovereign submerged land authorizations, coastal permits, and related environmental approvals.
  • Conducting ecological assessments, habitat evaluations, listed species surveys, natural resource inventories, mitigation assessments, and environmental due diligence.
  • Supporting preparation of Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Resource Reports, biological evaluations, and other documents required for compliance with NEPA and state environmental review processes.
  • Managing natural resource components of large multidisciplinary infrastructure, utility, renewable energy, transmission, pipeline, and transportation projects.
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client communications.
  • Developing work plans, collecting and analyzing environmental data, preparing technical reports, and presenting findings to clients and regulators.
  • Contributing to business development activities, proposal preparation, and client relationship management.
  • Mentoring and developing junior scientists and environmental professionals.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or a related discipline. (required)
  • Master's degree in a related field. (preferred)
  • Professional certifications such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Certified Ecologist, Certified Wildlife Biologist, Florida Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), or similar relevant credentials. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years (8+ preferred) of environmental permitting, natural resources, and ecological consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated experience with Florida environmental permitting programs and agencies. (required)
  • Experience conducting wetland delineations and leading field investigations. (required)
  • Experience preparing permit applications and coordinating with regulatory agencies. (required)
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and project management skills. (required)
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and client relationships. (required)
  • Ability to travel periodically throughout Florida and the southeastern United States. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Experience with energy, utility, transmission, pipeline, renewable energy, transportation, coastal restoration, or water resources projects. (preferred)
  • Experience supporting NEPA compliance efforts, including EAs and EISs. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of threatened and endangered species occurring within Florida and the southeastern United States. (preferred)
  • Existing professional relationships with federal and state regulatory agencies in Florida. (preferred)
  • Business development experience and a demonstrated ability to support growth initiatives. (preferred)
  • Formal training and demonstrated experience conducting wetland delineations and natural resource assessments. (preferred)
