Job summary

Northwestern Mutual in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a Mutual Fund Accountant in the MFA division to oversee outsourced fund accounting and pricing, coordinate daily valuation controls, and prepare financial statements and regulatory filings.

You’ll work with internal and external partners to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance while contributing to process improvements and new product initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• Three years of accounting experience
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Working knowledge of GAAP and/or tax accounting for investments
• Ability to work well with limited guidance and meet deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to retrieve and utilize information from accounting system

Responsibilities

• Oversee outsourced service providers including fund accounting and pricing services
• Coordinate controls over daily valuation of mutual funds
• Prepare and review financial statements and related materials and disclosures
• Provide financial information for regulatory filings and external stakeholders
• Ensure mutual fund compliance with regulators (IRS, SEC) and industry standards
• Lead small projects and assist on complex initiatives
• Identify book-to-tax differences and oversee tax calculations for funds
• Collaborate with internal/external contacts to improve processes
