Job summary

City of Sparks is seeking a senior Assistant City Attorney to handle the full range of criminal litigation in a municipal setting. The role emphasizes independent work on complex matters and may rotate among qualified attorneys based on experience.

Requirements include a JD, Nevada Bar admission, and a Nevada driver’s license. Strong advocacy, research, and communication skills are essential. This exempt, at-will position offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and JD with three years of criminal law experience.
• Must be licensed to practice law in Nevada and admitted to the Nevada State Bar.
• Must possess within 30 days of hire and maintain a Nevada Class C driver's license.
• Ability to advise and communicate effectively in litigation and related matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise law enforcement on constitutional and criminal law issues.
• Prosecute municipal criminal cases from inception to appeal.
• Review cases for probable cause; negotiate pleas or resolutions.
• Represent the City in hearings before boards, commissions and agencies.
• Appear at weekend bail hearings and conduct in-custody arraignments.
• Maintain records and compile reports of work performed.
• Monitor legal developments and advise on actions.
