Job summary

Artheon seeks a Senior Municipal Engineer to plan, review, design, and deliver municipal and public infrastructure projects in Albany, NY. You will collaborate with municipal clients, senior leadership, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliant, safe, and cost-effective solutions.

Will lead design efforts for roadways, drainage, utilities and site works; perform calculations, prepare plans, cost estimates, and documentation; mentor junior staff and coordinate with boards

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of municipal engineering experience
  • PE license preferred or ability to obtain licensure in NJ
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and coordinate with stakeholders

  • Project Design & Delivery: lead or support design of municipal infrastructure improvements including roadway, drainage, and utility projects; prepare plans, specs, and cost estimates.
  • Engineering Analysis: perform calculations related to grading, drainage, stormwater management, and roadway design.
  • Construction Administration: support submittal reviews, RFIs, field observations, and contractor coordination.
  • Quality Control & Coordination: conduct quality reviews of engineering documents and coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Team Support & Mentorship: guide junior staff and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture

Senior Municipal Engineer

Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000 / year

Description

This role involves planning, reviewing, designing, and executing municipal and public infrastructure projects in collaboration with municipal clients, senior leadership, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Municipal Review & Technical Oversight: Review site plans, subdivision and land development applications, and capital improvement projects for compliance with municipal ordinances, engineering standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Board & Client Representation: Prepare technical review letters, engineering reports, and written recommendations for municipal clients, boards, and internal teams; attend and participate in planning board and zoning board meetings as needed.
  • Project Design & Delivery: Lead or support the design of municipal infrastructure improvements, including roadway, drainage, stormwater, utility, and site-related projects; prepare or oversee plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
  • Engineering Analysis: Perform and review engineering calculations related to grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility systems, and roadway design, applying sound technical judgment and practical problem-solving.
  • Construction Administration: Support construction-phase services including submittal review, RFIs, contractor coordination, field observations, change documentation, and resolution of field issues.
  • Quality Control & Coordination: Conduct quality reviews of engineering documents and coordinate effectively with internal disciplines, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies to support successful project delivery and compliance.
  • Team Support & Mentorship: Provide guidance to junior engineering staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on technical quality, responsiveness, and professional growth.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in municipal engineering, civil/site engineering, land development review, public infrastructure, or transportation-related projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license – Preferred, preferably in New Jersey or with the ability to obtain New Jersey licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Strong experience in municipal engineering review, infrastructure design, permitting, and construction-phase coordination.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant engineering software; experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally to municipal clients, boards, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, exercise sound engineering judgment, and contribute effectively in a client-service environment.
