Opportunity to work in Materials Engineering Laboratory in Tucson AZ. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to solve engineering problems by performing chemical analysis on various materials (adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, metals, and other production materials). The primary responsibilities require assessing materials based on conformance to specifications or conducting root‑cause failure analysis leveraging knowledge of instrumental analysis with an emphasis on thermal analysis experience along with some spectroscopy and chromatography experience. Tasks will require quick turnaround of analysis working with a multi‑discipline team, requiring careful attention to detail and can be repetitive at times. This is not a research position but requires solving engineering problems and providing engineering solutions within a short period of time (days or weeks).

Due to the physical nature of the work, qualified candidates must also be able to lift 22 lbs. Collaboration with engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. The candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements while spending much of their time in the laboratory. This candidate will become part of a multi‑disciplined team.

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. An active and transferable U.S. government‑issued security clearance (Secret) is required prior to start date.

  • Experience in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis including Infrared Spectroscopy and Chromatography (e.g., FTIR, GCMS, HPLC, GPC, etc.)
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science and Polymer Science
  • Understanding of material testing/analysis such as hardness, adhesion tests, sample preparation, cross‑section, etc.
  • Understanding of material safety datasheets and Military Specifications
  • Current/Active DoD clearance or SSBI
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large‑scale multi‑disciplined scientific‑based projects including failure analysis investigations
  • Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
  • Able to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data
  • Good communication, interpersonal, planning, teaming and time‑management skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
