Job summary

VDOT Information Technology Division (ITD) Tolling group seeks a SQL Server/Cloud DBA to administer and support SQL Server and cloud databases within the Tolling Engineering and Operations Team.

This role includes helpdesk and applications support responsibilities and requires expertise with SQL clustering, large databases, and tuning. Candidates should have Azure Cloud exposure and strong data modeling knowledge.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• 1+ year of Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks experience (certifications acceptable in lieu of experience).
• Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent.
• Experience communicating requirements and design artifacts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot application/database connectivity, access, and security issues.
• Review and refine database tasks to align with agency priorities.
• Review existing implementation and propose or execute changes as needed.
• Perform SQL Server installations (2022, 2025 with failover clustering).
• Support SQL Server databases (administration, support, tuning).
• Knowledgeable in data modeling principles.
