Job summary

QDSS is seeking a Senior Model Based Definition Engineer to design detailed 2D/3D models and MBD baselines for jet engine components using Siemens NX and Teamcenter. The role emphasizes GD&T and cross-functional collaboration to ensure manufacturability and quality.

The candidate will contribute to design reviews, root-cause investigations, and potential component redesigns while supporting budget and schedule constraints. A U.S. citizenship and active clearance is required for this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years in 3D modeling of aero-engines and gas turbine components.
  • Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.

Responsibilities

  • Design detailed 2D cross-sections and 3D models with Model-Based Definition in Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Assist redesign of externals components and support root-cause investigations and design reviews.
  • Conceptualize and design gas turbine external components and push engineering boundaries.
  • Define dimensional constraints and geometric tolerances with cross-functional teams for manufacturability.

What You'll Do
  • Design Excellence: Create detailed 2D cross-sections, 3D models, and Model-Based Definitions (MBD) within Siemens NX and Teamcenter environments.
    • If required, aid in the redesign of various externals components, support the investigation of root cause for failures, and subsequent design reviews.
  • Innovative Development: Conceptualize and design gas turbine external components, pushing the boundaries of engineering.
  • Collaborative Engineering: Work with cross-functional teams to define dimensional constraints and geometric tolerances, ensuring optimal manufacturing processes.
  • Quality Assurance: Utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to drive improvements in quality, speed, and precision.
  • Project Management: Navigate CAD and CAM environments, managing projects within budget and schedule, delivering uncompromising quality.
Qualifications
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 year in 3D modeling of aero-engines and gas turbine components; proficiency in Siemens NX/Teamcenter preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing; ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage with team members at all levels.
  • Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship required; active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree: Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 1-3 years of product definition experience.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with Siemens NX CAD Drafting and MBD, and Teamcenter PLM in designing mechanical engine components.
  • Experience in adoption and/or integration of emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, digital assistants) into day-to-day operations for continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Mostly Office Environments, Occasional Shop Floor involvement.
  • Substantial amounts of telephone, video conferencing and computer work.
  • Heavily Regulated Industries with strict adherence to procedures.
  • Flexibility to meet business deadlines by staying late or arriving early.
  • Typical 8 hour days plus lunch / 40 hour weeks / core (required) hours are 9AM to 4PM
  • Ability to get to customer locations to visit customer locations.
