Job summary

Ocient is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build in-database machine learning capabilities. You will implement new model types, push parity with familiar frameworks, and optimize training and inference for large-scale data inside the engine.

This is a hands-on, end-to-end role on a small team with a broad surface area. You will own meaningful roadmap pieces and collaborate with product and customer teams to deliver impactful ML features.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production software systems, including strong experience in C++ (or comparable in Java/Scala).
• Hands-on experience implementing or integrating machine learning models in production and writing training loops.
• Knowledge of numerical methods: gradient-based optimization, loss functions, numerical stability, scaling.
• Familiarity with scikit-learn, Spark ML, and related frameworks, understanding their defaults and semantics.
• Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into concrete solutions and write clear tests and docs.

Responsibilities

• Close feature and semantic gaps against scikit-learn and Spark ML across the model catalog.
• Develop new model types and capabilities for classification, regression, time series, and automated model selection.
• Make training and inference fast on large datasets with optimization and distributed techniques.
• Expand SQL-level linear algebra surface and related transforms to support PCS, regression, and optimization.
• Embed models into the query plan as a native component and contribute design docs and tests.
