Job summary

bp is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer in Houston, Texas, to design, build, and deploy production-grade ML and AI systems. You will translate complex scientific problems into scalable ML products, working alongside data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts.

You will apply ML science across NLP, optimisation, simulation, or generative AI, ensuring production delivery and measurable value.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in a quantitative field (CS/Math/Physics/Engineering).
• Hands-on 5+ years designing and productionizing ML/data science products.
• Strong ML algorithms, modelling, and optimisation expertise with production-grade results.
• Applied knowledge of data science and ML tools across lifecycle stages.
• Mathematical foundations of statistics and ML.
• Strong OO programming experience (Python/Go/Java/C++).
• Advanced SQL knowledge and data handling capabilities.
• Experience with MLOps, model lifecycle management, CI/CD, monitoring.
• Customer-centric, value-focused mindset with strong execution.
• Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, production-grade ML systems and pipelines (CI/CD, testing, monitoring).
• Develop novel ML algorithms and models deployed as reliable products.
• Build ML products using statistical modelling, deep learning, and AI techniques.
• Translate problems into deployable ML solutions delivering actionable insights.
• Architect and optimise ML systems for performance and reliability in production.
• Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and engineers across domains.
• Follow engineering and data science guidelines, reviews, testing, and documentation.
• Present technical results and trade-offs to peers and leadership.
• Contribute to developer velocity, tooling, and engineering standards.
• Mentor junior team members and grow the wider team.
