Job summary

Candid is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to take operational ownership of deployed ML/AI services and drive reliable, scalable deployments. You will collaborate with data scientists to translate research into production and optimize inference performance while controlling cloud spend.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, end-to-end deployment, and cross-functional coordination with product and software teams. Remote-friendly with periodic in-person meetings and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in production ML systems.
• Proficiency in Python, including production-quality service code.
• Hands-on experience with experiment tracking and model lifecycle tooling in production (MLflow, W&B).
• Hands-on experience deploying PyTorch models in production, including optimization techniques.

Responsibilities

• Take operational ownership of deployed ML/AI services, monitoring for degradation and managing retraining cadences.
• Improve inference performance for deployed models via quantization, batching, and efficient serialization.
• Design and operate experiment tracking, model versioning, and artifact management for low-friction handoffs.
• Build and maintain observability for ML/AI services with logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerting.
• Establish and improve a repeatable deployment path for new ML services on AWS (CI/CD, infrastructure as code).
• Monitor AWS spend across ML workloads and publish cost visibility to the team.
• Translate research code into production-ready deployments and collaborate with data scientists on model behavior.
• Serve as liaison between Data Science and product/engineering teams for integration contracts and latency/reliability expectations.
