Job summary

Apple is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design, train, and deploy transformer-based language models and on-device AI systems. You will build semantic retrieval, embedding, and reranking pipelines to power intelligent search experiences across the Apple ecosystem.

You will optimize models for latency, memory, and power constraints while collaborating with engineers, researchers, and product teams to translate research into production. This role is onsite in Cupertino, California.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, ML, AI, or related field.
• 5+ years experience building ML systems.
• Experience training, fine-tuning, or deploying transformer-based models and LLMs.
• Experience with modern deep learning architectures and techniques (transformers, embeddings, neural ranking).
• Programming in Python and/or C/C++, with production ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
• Ability to work onsite in Cupertino, CA.

Responsibilities

• Build semantic retrieval, embedding, reranking, and retrieval-augmented generation systems.
• Analyze search relevance and user behavior; design evaluation methodologies and metrics.
• Develop training, fine-tuning, and optimization pipelines for LLMs and search models.
• Prototype on-device AI techniques and power-efficient inference.
• Collaborate with eng, research, product, and design teams to scale AI across Apple.
