Job summary

Pantheon Data in Reston, VA (Remote/Hybrid) seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design, build, and operate production AI systems for federal clients, including hybrid RAG apps, IDP pipelines, and LLM-backed decision-support on AWS GovCloud. You will ship secure, evidence-grounded systems with rigorous evaluation and cost/latency tuning.

This hands-on role requires 8+ years in software/AI, strong Python, and deep experience with RAG, embedding models, and serverless data pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of software engineering with 5+ years in machine learning/AI engineering.
• Production AI/ML systems experience beyond notebooks or demos.
• Hands-on with managed foundation-model services (Bedrock preferred).
• Deep experience with RAG architectures: embeddings, vector search, hybrid retrieval, grounding.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain ML/AI components for RAG, IDP, and generative AI systems serving federal customers.
• Build data pipelines for unstructured data: ingestion, extraction, cleaning, enrichment, validation, and storage.
• Develop NLP, OCR, embedding, retrieval, and LLM-based approaches for document understanding and QA.
• Deploy and support AI services in cloud and containerized environments with Bedrock integration.
• Define evaluation methods and metrics; build eval datasets and harnesses; perform error analysis.
• Implement security controls: guardrails, redaction, prompt-injection mitigation, and output traceability.
• Troubleshoot end-to-end system performance, data quality, and latency; mentor engineers and raise technical standards.
• Communicate tradeoffs and results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
