Job summary

Dallas County in Texas is seeking an attorney to prosecute misdemeanor cases, perform legal research, and draft legal documents. Under supervision, you will handle court proceedings, plea negotiations, and pre-trial preparation.

The role requires a law degree, admission to the Texas bar, and experience in misdemeanor prosecutions, including jury selection. You will train less experienced prosecutors and manage court dockets.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Six (6) months of experience practicing law.
• Requires a current license to practice law in the State of Texas.
• Requires experience prosecuting all levels of misdemeanor offenses, including jury selection.

Responsibilities

• Manages court docket, court schedules and ensures deadlines are met.
• Trains and assist in training less experienced misdemeanor prosecutors.
• Evaluates assigned case or lawsuit by reviewing documentation, conducting necessary legal research, interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and determining action(s).
• Drafts, files and responds to motions, briefs, or other legal documents for trial or hearing.
• Explains legal process to potential witnesses and prepares witnesses for court testimony and status updates.
• Gathers, prepares, and presents evidence for trial or hearing.
• Represents the State in trial and hearings, including jury selection and opening/closing statements.
• Participates in settlement or plea-bargain negotiations.
