A large, established base‑metals producer is seeking a Senior Mine Engineer to provide technical leadership for mine planning activities at a complex, long‑life open‑pit operation. This is a senior technical role with responsibility for long‑range mine planning, reserve development, and integration of geology, operations, and capital planning to support safe, profitable, and sustainable production.

The role will suit a technically strong mine engineer with deep open‑pit experience who can operate at both strategic and execution levels, influencing multi‑year plans while supporting near‑term operational decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities
Mine Planning & Technical Leadership
  • Lead long‑range mine planning (life‑of‑mine, 5‑year, and 10‑year plans) for a large open‑pit mining operation
  • Oversee pit optimization, pushback design, phase sequencing, and strategic scheduling
  • Ensure mine designs align with geological models, geotechnical constraints, and processing capacity
Operational & Capital Integration
  • Translate long‑range plans into executable medium‑ and short‑range strategies in coordination with operations
  • Support annual business planning, capital prioritization, and reserve replacement strategies
  • Provide technical input into major capital projects, equipment strategies, and mine expansions
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
  • Provide senior technical guidance and mentorship to mine planning engineers
  • Act as a key technical interface between engineering, operations, geology, and processing
  • Present mine plans, risks, and opportunities to site leadership and corporate stakeholders
Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice
  • Identify and mitigate technical and operational risks within mine plans
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning processes, systems, and tools
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Mining Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Extensive experience in open‑pit mine engineering with a strong focus on long‑range planning
  • Proven track record contributing to life‑of‑mine planning for large‑scale operations
  • Strong understanding of mine economics, scheduling, and risk analysis
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard mine planning software (e.g. Deswik, Whittle, MineSight, Vulcan)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
Preferred Experience
  • Base metals open‑pit operations
  • Long‑life assets with significant capital planning requirements
  • Exposure to corporate planning and reserve governance processes
