Job summary

Flagship Pioneering in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Senior Research Associate to support microbial strain engineering for recombinant protein production. You will work under the Senior Scientist, Microbial Strain Engineering, contributing to genetic design and hands-on laboratory work in a fast-paced startup environment.

The role requires practical experience with DNA assembly, microbial culture, and routine lab operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant biosciences with several years of research experience.
Hands-on molecular biology experience including DNA design, isolation and assembly.
Strong aseptic technique and microbial culture handling.
Excellent communication, organization and documentation abilities.
Ability to independently execute experiments and troubleshoot issues.

Responsibilities

DNA Design and Assembly: construct plasmids, perform sequencing analysis, prep plasmid DNA.
Strain Engineering: prepare competent cells, PCR, gel electrophoresis, biomass tracking.
Laboratory Operations: maintain records, prepare media, troubleshoot equipment, ensure safety.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: work with discovery, bioprocess development, and analytics teams.
