Senior Metrology Engineer – Milpitas, CA – Full-time, On-site – Commonwealth Fusion Systems

What you'll do:

• Select, develop and maintain measurement systems and metrology tools.
• Create SOPs and workflows for sample measurement and provide written and verbal training for staff.
• Develop and use data management systems including laboratory information management systems and manufacturing execution systems.

What we’re looking for:

• B.S. in a technical field or equivalent industrial experience, including materials science, electrical engineering, or physics.
• 7+ years of experience working as a process or metrology engineer.
• Thorough understanding of measurement systems, including optical and electron microscopy, surface probe measurements, optical and NIR probes, and X‑ray measurements.
• Experience working with metrology vendors and directing metrology service providers.
• Ability to successfully work with internal customers.
• Commitment to safety and quality.
• Ability to take directions from supervisors and work independently in a fast‑paced, startup environment.
• Ability to create work instructions for staff and technicians, and provide training.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and teamwork skills.

Bonus points for:

• M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.
• Experience in semiconductor, battery, solar cell, optoelectronics or related fields.
• Experience with high‑uptime systems.

Must‑have Requirements:

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Perform activities such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time.
• Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics.
• Willingness to travel or work required nights, weekends, on‑call occasionally, including compressed work‑week shift schedule.

Salary

$110,000 - $185,000 a year, plus equity and benefits.
