Job summary

The Weather Company in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Senior Operational Meteorologist embedded with a major ground-transport client. You will forecast highly localized driving conditions and serve as the primary meteorological authority for that client.

This role requires independent decision-making, the ability to communicate complex weather impacts to non-technical stakeholders, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Relocation to Phoenix with assistance is anticipated.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of operational weather forecasting experience.
• Strong ability to translate weather data into actionable business insights for non-technical audiences.
• Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays to support 24/7 operations.
• Proven experience forecasting road-level hazards and urban microclimates.
• Relocation to Phoenix with anticipated assistance.

Job brief:

As a Senior Operational Meteorologist at The Weather Company, you will be embedded with akey enterprise client in the ground transportation sector based in Phoenix, Arizona. You will beresponsible for forecasting highly localized driving and road conditions, ensuring the safe operation of alarge vehicle fleet by mitigating risks associated with flooding, snow, ice, poor visibility, and otherhazards. Operating largely on solo shifts, you will serve as the primary meteorological authority for theclient, requiring a seasoned professional who can make critical, independent decisions and communicatecomplex weather impacts clearly to operational stakeholders.

The impact you'll make:

• Produce highly accurate, hyper-local forecasts focusing heavily on surface-level driving risks,including flash flooding, winter precipitation (snow/ice), and low-visibility events like fog or duststorms.
• Operate independently as the sole meteorological authority during isolated solo shifts, makingcritical weather-related decisions with minimal supervision.
• Monitor real-time weather observations, radar, and proprietary sensor data to issue immediate,short-fuse alerts for sudden weather changes impacting vehicle routing and safety.
• Communicate complex meteorological data clearly, concisely, and frequently tonon-meteorologist stakeholders and operations teams.
• Collaborate directly with the client's ground operations and fleet management teams toproactively mitigate risk and minimize service disruptions.
• Develop and apply specialized urban forecasting techniques to account for complexmicroclimates within the Phoenix metropolitan area and other operational zones.
• Maintain continuous situational awareness of weather conditions across multiple operatingdomains to ensure 24/7 fleet safety.
• Support continuous client operations by working a non-standard schedule, which will likelyinclude evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Create post-event weather summaries and case studies to help the client understand the impactof specific weather phenomena on vehicle sensor performance and overall operations.
• Utilize advanced meteorological software and AI-driven models to enhance forecast precision forhyper-local road conditions.
• Participate in regular briefings with client leadership to discuss upcoming weather patterns,seasonal shifts, and potential long-term operational risks.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with client personnel through a high degree of dailyinteraction and collaborative problem-solving.

What you've accomplished:

• Completed a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related discipline.
• Accumulated 5+ years of operational weather forecasting experience, establishing yourself as aseasoned forecaster capable of confident, independent decision-making.
• Demonstrated a high degree of communication and people interaction skills, with a proven track record of translating complex weather data into actionable business insights for non-technicalaudiences.
• Showcased a willingness and proven ability to work a highly flexible schedule, including strictlyrequired weekends, holidays, and varied shift hours to support 24/7 operations.
• Proven ability to thrive in an isolated, solo-shift environment while maintaining high accuracy,situational awareness, and productivity.
• Gained specialized experience forecasting road-level hazards (e.g., flash floods, snow, ice, blackice, dust storms, fog).
• Developed expertise in urban forecasting and microclimate analysis (highly preferred).
• Committed to relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, to support the client on-site (relocation assistance is anticipated).
