Job summary

First Majestic is seeking a Chief Metallurgist at Jerritt Canyon, based in the Elko, NV area. This site-based role with a 4-10 schedule oversees metallurgical, laboratory and processing activities, driving safe restart readiness and long-term process performance.

You will mentor teams, lead troubleshooting, and collaborate across Operations, Maintenance, Geology, and Mine Engineering to optimize metal recovery, reliability and operational readiness while advancing strategic process improvements.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive metallurgical or process engineering experience within a mining or mineral processing environment, preferably including gold processing, complex operations, startup, commissioning, ramp-up, or restart experience.
• Strong understanding of mineral processing principles including comminution, refractory treatment techniques, recovery optimization, and process control.
• Proven ability to mentor, coach, and influence technical and operational teams while building trust and accountability across departments.
• Experience with production reporting, budgeting, and forecasting related to processing performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior leadership and strategic technical direction for metallurgical, maintenance and processing activities, with a focus on restart readiness and operational excellence.
• Lead, mentor, and develop metallurgical and laboratory team members with clear expectations and career development.
• Champion a strong safety culture by promoting safe work practices and ensuring environmental and regulatory compliance.
• Define, monitor, and communicate process performance targets and technical limits to support stable operations.
• Lead metallurgical troubleshooting and process optimization studies to improve recovery and reliability.
• Oversee metallurgical testing programs, including design, execution, and interpretation of results.
• Maintain metallurgical accounting systems and production reporting accuracy.
• Provide oversight of sampling systems, on‑stream analyzers, and laboratory services for data reliability.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Geology, Mine Engineering and site leadership to align strategies with ore characteristics and business needs.
• Lead strategic process improvement initiatives and evaluate new technologies and alternative operating strategies.
• Oversee projects from concept through budget, forecasting, risk identification, commissioning support, ramp-up, and post‑implementation review.
• Build technical capability through mentoring across metallurgical, laboratory, operations and cross‑functional teams.
