Responsibilities

Responsible for the initiation, planning, monitoring, reporting and closure of large material development and new/emerging associated technology projects. The role will closely coordinate with a cross-functional team of resources (Product Management, Strategic Marketing, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, etc.) for execution on-time and budget to meet or exceed project requirements. The Senior Metallurgist will be expected to leverage their materials associated technologies expertise to drive superior execution and contribute to strategy development around enhancing capabilities.

Principal Activities
  • Serve as Materials Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Industrial Group including all pump and valve products
  • Provide independent technical leadership in materials and associated existing and new technologies across manufacturing sites and all product platforms.
  • Investigate and match new technologies to product development needs to support substantial business growth in all served end markets.
  • Provide technical leadership to establish partnerships with external technical communities including universities, technical consultants and research companies.
  • Develop & execute technical material projects of varying complexity based on commercial needs & proposed technical solution
  • Successfully identify and mitigate cost and technical risks involving material recommendations, developments and substitutions.
  • Partner with Industrial leadership team to develop advance material capabilities and technologies strategy & drive execution based on best practice.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrate experience managing material technology projects including teams with engineering & production located across multiple global sites
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral reporting to middle and senior management levels
  • Have exceptional cross-functional accountability with proven track record as a change agent
  • Demonstrate abilities to perform in a metric driven environment
  • Experience with lean principles or business-system culture
  • Must be a strong influencer, driven solely by data and facts
  • Must have a valid passport; travel both international and domestic, up to 10%
Education & Experience
  • Typically requires a minimum level of knowledge that is acquired through a four-year college degree in an applicable field and five years related experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ Years leading cross-functional teams on complex material technology and associated technology projects.
  • Background in Welding, Castings and Heat Treatments processes and corrosion prevention preferred
  • Proven experience in manufacturing and machining processes
  • Proven management experience in a global manufacturing company
  • Knowledge of fluid handling equipment (pumps, compressors, valves, controls) preferred
  • Practical knowledge of Military certifications and audits preferred
  • Strong manufacturing background with companies that produce metal products
