Job summary

Smith+Nephew is seeking a Senior Sustainment Engineer to serve as the technical owner for metal additive manufacturing processes. The role focuses on stabilizing production, improving yield and throughput, and ensuring compliance across QA, regulatory, and maintenance activities.

Leading preventive maintenance and cross-functional collaboration, you will drive data-driven improvements, schedule builds, support validations, and mentor engineers to sustain manufacturing excellence and growth.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical owner for metal additive manufacturing production processes, ensuring process stability, repeatability, and compliance.
• Drive initiatives to reduce scrap, improve yield, increase throughput, and enhance overall equipment effectiveness.
• Analyze production data to identify trends, opportunities, and sustainable process improvements.
• Develop and manage preventive maintenance strategies while partnering with Maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts, root cause investigations, and corrective and preventive actions related to process and equipment performance.
• Manage additive manufacturing build schedules and collaborate with Operations and Production Planning to maximize capacity utilization.
• Support validation activities including IQ, OQ, PQ, process qualifications, and revalidation efforts.
• Maintain manufacturing documentation, support audit readiness, and ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with cross functional teams including Quality, Regulatory, Maintenance, Operations, and Supply Chain to support manufacturing excellence and business growth.
• Mentor engineers and technical staff while promoting knowledge sharing and technical excellence.
