Job summary

Aurelius Systems in San Francisco is building autonomous, edge-deployed directed energy laser systems for counter-UAS. We need a Senior Mechanical Engineer who owns rugged subsystems from architecture to production, ensuring shock, vibration, moisture, and environmental endurance.

You will lead mechanical design, thermal management, and precision packaging, performing FEA and bench validation, and coordinating with the Detroit manufacturing hub for handoff and ramp.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in mechanical engineering on ruggedized, field-deployable or high-performance systems.
• Experience taking at least one subsystem from prototype to production.
• Strong FEA (ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus or equivalent) and bench testing.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design of major subsystems: laser source and head enclosures, gimbal and beam director structure, mounts.
• Survivability to MIL-STD shock, vibration, humidity, dust and austere environments.
• Thermal management for high-power laser and electronics packaging.
• Precision and optomechanical packaging that holds alignment through shock and thermal cycles.
• FEA and correlation to test.
• Test rigs and bench validation you build and run.
• Handoff to Detroit manufacturing and support design reviews.
