Job summary

Burns Engineering, Inc. in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Rail & Transit team.

You will lead HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design for rail facilities, develop calculations and energy models, and produce detailed Revit (MEP) drawings and AutoCAD layouts. You will coordinate with civil, structural, electrical teams, review submittals, respond to RFIs, and support project managers with budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 8+ years of related experience or equivalent.
• Professional Engineering License preferred or required depending on project scope.

Responsibilities

• Engineer HVAC systems for Rail & Transit environments including underground and platform ventilation.
• Design plumbing, fire protection, and specialized transit facility systems.
• Develop mechanical calculations, load analyses, and energy modeling inputs.
• Prepare detailed mechanical drawings and calculations using Revit, AutoCAD, and other tools.
• Review submittals and respond to RFIs to ensure design intent and code compliance.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical and other disciplines for space coordination.
