AutoStore System Inc. in Atlanta, GA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Integration & Applications to drive the adoption of our robotic piece-picking solutions. You will serve as the technical expert on robot cells, guarding, and mounting, collaborating with partners, customers, and internal teams.
The role blends hands-on fieldwork with documentation, product feedback, and design work to ensure rapid, safe deployment of advanced warehouse robotics across customer sites.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Integration & Applications, you'll help AutoStore partners and customers adopt our newest products, including our most advanced physical solutions: our robotic piece‑ picking product line. You'll work closely with Documentation, Product, Electrical/Controls, Compliance, our system integrator partners, our strategic suppliers and customers. You'll be the technical expert on robotic cell guarding, safety compliance, and structural and mounting needs. You'll have a direct effect on how quickly and safely our products reach the market. The variation guidelines and integration artifacts you create will scale across our global partner base. This role suits an engineer who enjoys variety: hands‑on time at customer sites, technical advising, documentation and product design, all built around advanced warehouse robotics.
Serve as a technical point of contact for partners and system integrators adapting AutoStore products, including robotic arms and other robotic piece‑ picking solutions, to customer‑specific processes, layouts and space constraints. Assess structural and mounting needs for robotic equipment, including installations on mezzanines, platforms with static and dynamics loads and existing building structures along with robot cell guarding and safeguarding strategies. Work with the Documentation team to define and publish allowable product variations, integration guidelines, installation requirements and other partner‑facing artifacts. Create CAD layouts, 3D models and engineering drawings of robot cells, guarding and mounting solutions. Review partner‑proposed designs, layouts and safety concepts, and give clear, actionable feedback. Support integration with conveyors, legacy material handling equipment and controls interfaces, including review of PLC logic, safety I/O and wiring diagrams. Feed field learnings back to Product and Engineering to improve product design, integration flexibility and documentation. Manage several partner projects and integration requests at once, prioritizing by customer impact and timelines. Support core mechanical engineering work: design, prototyping, verification testing, root cause analysis and continuous improvement. 10% travel required, primarily to customer sites.
7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in robotics, automation, material handling or machine integration, ideally in a customer‑ or partner‑facing role. Familiarity with safety technologies for robotic work cells, such as hard guarding and interlocked doors, light curtains, area scanners, safety mats, e‑stops, safety PLCs/relays, and software‑based safety zones and speed/separation monitoring. Mechanical design skills in 3D CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, NX or similar) for robot cell layouts, guarding, mounting structures and engineering drawings. Experience with conveyor systems and other traditional material handling equipment. Understanding of structural and mounting considerations, such as load paths, anchoring, vibration and mezzanine/platform interfaces. Proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders across layers of indirection, such as vendors, partners and system integrators acting for end customers. Ability to manage multiple projects at once with strong organization and follow‑through. Strong written and verbal communication, including writing clear technical documentation. Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Working knowledge of robot cell and machine safeguarding standards, such as: EU: Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC / Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230; ISO 10218‑1/‑2 (industrial robot safety); ISO 13849‑1 (safety‑related parts of control systems) US: ANSI/A3 R15.06 (industrial robot safety); ANSI B11.19 (safeguarding); OSHA 29 CFR 1910.212 (machine guarding). Ability to read PLC control logic, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and to discuss them with controls engineers. Experience with a broader range of material handling and fulfillment technologies, such as AMRs/AGVs, put walls, palletizing and depalletizing, pouch/pocket sorters, shuttle systems and other material handling systems. Experience integrating robotic piece‑ picking or other AI/vision‑guided robotic systems. Experience with CE marking, technical files or third‑party safety audits and risk assessments. Hands‑on commissioning or site integration experience in warehouse or distribution center environments.
