Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Huntsville, AL, seeks a mid- to senior-level mechanical engineer to join the Hardware Engineering group. The role focuses on design and integration of Command and Control systems, including radios, networks, antennas, and power equipment for DoD programs across platforms such as armored vehicles and ships.

You will contribute to a matrixed organization, lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and engage in 3D CAD modeling, GD&T, and systems integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience for Level 3 or 8+ years for Level 4 in mechanical design engineering.
• Experience with 3D parametric modeling using NX or SolidWorks.
• Experience drafting and reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards.
• Experience with PLM systems (TeamCenter) and SAP.
• Strong communication skills and proactive interpersonal initiative.
• Experience leading teams on complex technical problems.
• Active DoD Secret or higher security clearance (or interim).

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts and assemblies, including 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawings.
• Coordinate with suppliers and customers to exchange technical information.
• Collaborate with procurement, production, logistics, and configuration management.
• Troubleshoot, inspect, or assemble parts/subsystems for prototyping or testing.
• Perform weight, center of mass, structural, transportability, or thermal analyses and document them.
• Create and defend engineering briefings or reports for design reviews.
• Track and report task status in an Agile hardware environment.
• Provide technical supervision to engineering teams.
• Train and mentor junior/mid-level engineers.
