Job summary

Fuss & O'Neill is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead building systems design across HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection for diverse projects. You will mentor juniors and manage projects from concept through construction, coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

This role may be remote with Northeast travel. A PE license and 10+ years in building systems are preferred, with strong client communication and BIM coordination skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience for building systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for MEP design.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and ASHRAE standards.
• Experience managing projects through design and construction phases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborate with clients and teams.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• BIM coordination tools preferred.
• Willingness to travel to job sites in CT, MA, and RI.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and act as project manager for building systems projects (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
• Develop and review construction documents, specs, and cost estimates.
• Ensure designs meet codes, standards, and client requirements (ASHRAE, local).
• Manage project scope, schedule, and budgets.
• Serve as primary contact for select projects; maintain client relationships.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams (civil, structural, electrical).
• Oversee construction administration: submittals, RFIs, site visits.
• Lead internal/external project meetings and communications.
• Support proposal development and level-of-effort estimating.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical development.
